Tips to succeed
Enter the ring leading your animal. You should be side-stepping as long as the judge is not looking at you. Smile and make sure you know where the judge is at all times!
Make sure there is a comfortable amount of room on all sides of you and your animal. Don't hug the wall and don't push the exhibitor ahead of you. Try to remember to walk slowly!
Try to make your animal look great, even if you don't think the judge is looking at you. Hold her head high at all times.
If she starts to get fussy, pull her out of the large ring and around into a comfortable circle (clockwise always) and then back into your spot in the big ring. Sometimes they just need a change of movement.
As the judge comes to a decision, he will point at each animal in a specific order. When he points at you, take the halter and march to the place he wants you. Some people may try to take your spot, so be deliberate about moving. Don't worry about walking backwards or side-stepping. Walk like you normally would and do it quickly!
Know your animal's birth date, breed, dam, and sire. The judge will usually ask for the birth date and may ask for the sire/dam.
Pull throat if your animal needs to look a bit cleaner in the brisket.
