The day of the show
About five hours before you are scheduled to go into the ring, you should wake up and head out to see your animal. Hopefully she isn't too dirty. Either way, take her to the wash rack and wash her. Then give her time to dry and have somebody do the topline for you. About 30 minutes before you go in the ring, change into your white pants, boots, and polo. Make sure you also have your exhibitor number. Your polo should be tucked into your pants with your belt on and shoes tied. You should look very neat and professional. Remember, you are exhibiting the animal! After you're changed, put the show halter on and lead your animal to the outside of the ring and wait for your class to go in. It is better to be early than late. If it's a hot day, have somebody bring a pail of water with you so that she can have a drink.
After the Show
After the show, make sure you at least rinse your animal down. All the chemicals on her skin can irritate it very easily, so take the time to wash it all out. Once that's done, try to relax, or start thinking about what you can do better for next time. This is a huge project to undertake so it will not be perfect the first time. Even those who have shown for many years still find better ways to do things the next time. Always be open to learning!
